Don’t Wait Until Life Is Perfect

There was a time when I thought I had to earn happiness.

I’d tell myself…

“Once the business grows…”

“Once everything settles down…”

“Once I have more money…”

“Once life isn’t so stressful…”

Then I’ll enjoy myself.

The problem?

Life doesn’t stop throwing challenges at you just because you’re ready for a break.

If you keep waiting for the perfect season, you might spend your whole life waiting.

Lately I’ve been reminded of that.

I’ve been camping.

I’ve been to concerts.

I’ve spent time with people who matter.

I’ve laughed.

I’ve reflected.

I’ve stood in the middle of nature with no phone in my hand and realized something…

Life has been happening all along.

Not when everything is fixed.

Not when every goal is achieved.

Right now.

We spend so much time chasing the next thing that we forget to appreciate the thing we’re living.

The next promotion.

The next relationship.

The next vacation.

The next milestone.

Always the next…

Meanwhile today quietly slips away.

I’m still building.

I’m still growing.

I still have goals that keep me up at night.

But I’ve stopped believing I have to postpone my happiness until I cross them off the list.

Sometimes happiness looks like a sunrise over a lake.

Sometimes it’s a country song that reminds you of someone you love.

Sometimes it’s kicking a soccer ball around.

Sometimes it’s sitting around a campfire saying absolutely nothing.

Those moments matter.

More than we give them credit for.

If I’ve learned anything recently, it’s this:

Don’t wait until life is perfect to start living it.

Take the trip.

Call your parents.

Watch the sunset.

Spend time with your kids.

Laugh with your friends.

Take the picture.

Put the phone down.

Take the breath.

Because one day, you’ll realize those ordinary moments were the ones that shaped your life the most.

Keep breathing.

Vince
