Building a Life You Don’t Need to Escape From

For a long time, I was always looking forward to the next thing.
The next trip.
The next concert.
The next goal.
The next relationship.
The next breakthrough.
There was nothing wrong with wanting more, but I realized something over the past few weeks…
The goal isn’t to build a life that’s exciting once in a while.
The goal is to build a life that feels good on an ordinary Tuesday.
Recently I’ve found myself slowing down.
Camping in Northern Ontario.
Watching the sunset over a quiet lake.
Spending time with my kids.
Holding the woman I love.
Facilitating breathwork for people who trust me with some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.
Playing music.
Working out.
Writing.
Simply being.
A few years ago, I probably would have been thinking about where to travel next or what event was coming up.
Now I catch myself appreciating what’s already here.
That’s growth.
Breathwork has taught me something that extends far beyond breathing techniques.
Presence changes everything.
When your nervous system isn’t constantly searching for the next distraction, the life you’re already living becomes a lot more beautiful.
Don’t get me wrong…….. I still have big dreams.
There are still mountains I want to climb, countries I want to visit, stages I want to stand on, and goals I haven’t accomplished yet.
But I’m no longer waiting to arrive somewhere before allowing myself to be happy.
Peace isn’t found at the finish line.
It’s found in how you experience today.
If you’re constantly chasing the next thing, ask yourself this:
Are you building a life you enjoy living… or just planning your next escape?
Take a breath.
Go for a walk.
Watch a sunset.
Call someone you love.
Put your phone down for an hour.
Your life might already be better than you realize.
Sometimes, all it takes is slowing down long enough to notice.
