The One Thing You Actually Control

Sunday, March 8, 2026

Life has a funny way of reminding us how little control we actually have.

The market shifts.

Relationships evolve.

Plans fall apart.

Opportunities appear when you least expect them.

And sometimes the things we work the hardest to control… are the things that slip through our fingers the fastest.

But there’s one thing that never leaves you.

Your breath.

The Illusion of Control

Most people spend their lives trying to control everything outside of themselves.

The outcome.

The perception.

The timeline.

The reactions of others.

But the more tightly you try to grip those things, the more stressful life becomes.

Because those things were never yours to control in the first place.

Breathwork has taught me something incredibly simple, yet incredibly powerful:

You don’t control the storm.

But you can control how your body moves through it.

Your Nervous System Is the Real Battlefield

When stress hits, your nervous system decides how you respond.

Do you panic?

Do you shut down?

Do you react emotionally?

Or do you pause… breathe… and respond intentionally?

Most people live in a constant state of low-level stress.

Shallow breathing.

Tight chest.

Busy mind.

And over time that becomes their baseline.

But when you learn to control your breath, you learn to control your state.

And when you control your state… you control your decisions.

Breath Is Power

Think about it.

Every emotion has a breathing pattern.

Anxiety is fast and shallow.

Anger is sharp and tight.

Sadness is heavy and slow.

But calm?

Calm is deliberate.

Calm is rhythmic.

Calm is controlled.

When you consciously shift your breathing, you’re literally sending signals to your brain that the environment is safe.

And your body listens.

Why I Keep Coming Back to Breathwork

I didn’t fall in love with breathwork because it’s trendy.

I fell in love with it because it works.

When life gets chaotic… breath brings clarity.

When emotions get loud… breath creates space.

When pressure builds… breath stabilizes the system.

It’s the simplest tool we have.

And yet most people never learn how to use it intentionally.

A Simple Practice

The next time you feel overwhelmed, try this:

Inhale slowly for 4 seconds

Hold for 4 seconds

Exhale slowly for 6 seconds

Repeat for 3 minutes.

That’s it.

No app.

No equipment.

No special environment.

Just you and the one tool that has been with you since the moment you were born.

Your breath.

Final Thought

You may not control what happens around you.

But you always control how you breathe through it.

And sometimes that’s the difference between reacting…

and leading.
