They’re Always Watching

Today is Father’s Day.
And as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized something about being a dad.
Our kids are always watching.
They’re watching how we handle stress.
They’re watching how we treat people.
They’re watching how we respond when life doesn’t go our way.
They’re watching how we speak to ourselves.
And most importantly, they’re watching what we do far more than they listen to what we say.
As fathers, we spend a lot of time wondering if we’re doing enough.
Are we providing enough?
Are we present enough?
Are we making the right decisions?
Are we giving them what they need?
The truth is, most of us are figuring it out as we go.
I know I am.
But one thing I’ve learned is that the greatest lessons I’ve ever taught my children weren’t taught through words.
They were taught through example.
When they watched me lose over 100 pounds.
When they watched me keep going after difficult seasons.
When they watched me build a business from an idea.
When they watched me choose growth over excuses.
When they watched me get back up after being knocked down.
Those moments matter.
Not because they create a perfect father.
There is no such thing.
They matter because they show our children what resilience looks like.
As a Breathwork facilitator, I often ask myself what kind of legacy I want to leave behind.
The answer has become very simple.
I want my children to know that no matter what life throws at them, they have the strength to keep moving forward.
Not because I told them they could.
Because they watched me do it.
Today I’ll celebrate Father’s Day with gratitude.
Not because I’ve done everything perfectly.
Far from it.
But because I’ve been given the opportunity to love, guide, support, and learn alongside three incredible children.
And that’s one of the greatest gifts life has ever given me.
To all the fathers out there:
Keep showing up.
Your kids are watching.
And one day they’ll realize just how much that mattered.
